The road is full of merchants who don’t play by rules. Many marketers are affected by this problem. They work hard to get traffic to merchant and at the end don’t get paid for it.

you know that your pages are generating page views and even click-troughs but after spending time on all your work done to advertise that merchant you don’t see any result? Why so?

there are some most common issues with affiliate programs :

Cookies
Some programs use cookies to track your sales. Most of visitors don’t spend their money on first visit. they can sign up for their newsletter and come back later. but you must get credit for that visitor since your site got it to merchants site.
Cookies can stay on visitors PC from one day and even few years. the longer - the better.

What can go wrong with cookies:

• Visitor deletes cookies - there is nothing you can do about it.
• Visitor has some software like firewall to prevent cookies - there is nothing you can do about it.
• Ad the worst thing is - affiliate program’s cookies don’t work.

This last thing happens too often. It is very important that you test program’s cookies for errors and expiration date before you spend a lot of time and money on advertisement. It is simple to do. Just go to your browsers cache folder and such thing:

Cookie:computername@affiliatesite.com/

or

Cookie:computername@www.affiliatesite.com/

Don’t forget to check the expire date also. If you don’t see such cookie then it can be a good idea to contact affiliate program and ask for help.

Not only one payment method

Some affiliate programs provide also a payment system. But some merchants can give a choice of payments to customer and customer can select any of them. If customer selects payment provided not by your affiliate program - you won’t get your commission from that sale.

Before you start to advertise it - check their site to see if they don’t provide multiple payments and some of them are not related to your affiliate program. Because even if affiliate program pays 75% commission and customer is using another payment system or if customer buys using phone then 75% from $0.00 will be still $0.00.

And remember that even honest affiliate programs can have some problems in their system from time to time. So remember to check them time after time and if you find something then nicely ask them about that problem.
